The Xbox One gaming console has received updates from Microsoft since its launch in 2013 that enable it to play select games from its two predecessor consoles, Xbox and Xbox 360. On June 15, 2015, backward compatibility with supported Xbox 360 games became available to eligible Xbox Preview program users with a beta update to the Xbox One system software. The dashboard update containing backward compatibility was released publicly on November 12, 2015. On October 24, 2017, another such update added games from the original Xbox library. The Xbox Series X/S was released in 2020 and was confirmed to be backwards compatible with the same list of games as the Xbox One at launch.

On November 15, 2021, a "final addition" of 76 titles was published as part of the 20th anniversary of the launch of the original Xbox console. The following is a list of all backward compatible games on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S under this functionality. During Microsoft's E press conference on June 15, 2015, Microsoft announced plans to introduce Xbox 360 backward compatibility on the Xbox One at no additional cost.

The game is still fresh today with the amazing multi player. The story/campaign was brilliant, the first mission with the VW Corrado was good showing off the graphics,cars and the festival! It slowly edged you into the massive world with a couple of qualifiers with low class cars which really helped you get a feel for the game and how the ai worked. You could just cruse the map or start entering races and going up the wristbands and when you do finally finish the story you get a big check for you to buy and customize cars! Talking of customizing the game has a lot to offer with every car available for upgrades. However I recommend not doing auto up grades and going through each part upgrading as your car will get higher spec.

I mean ALLOT ranging from Transits to Lambo's, Hummers to Jag's luckily I purchased the season pass and got everything and had allot of fun. Basic circuit races, PR stunts, Expeditions, cross-country sprints, and storylines that add so much depth to the game. This is basically GTA without the ability to get out of the car, and without the gruesome subject matter. The game still gets its graphical intent across, but the LOD scaling really shows this console's age. As you race through jungles, you'll notice that the tree foliage stays in its blobby low level of detail until you're almost right up against it, at which point you will have whizzed on by. At times it feels like the game engine shouldn't bother trying to pull in those higher detail assets. The gameplay still holds up though, and a steady frame rate in this situation is going to be the most important aspect.

This is a series that has always aimed for 30fps, but this is probably the best that it's ever felt, thanks in part to the excellent and natural feeling motion blur. The dense foliage on trees, for example, always looks like it's being rendered at high quality. This is the first game in the horizon series and has got a lot better with the newer iterations. I played Forza Horizon 5 on an Xbox Series S, the weaker of Microsoft's two next-gen consoles.

The game let me choose between a 60 frames-per-second Performance mode and 30 frames-per-second Quality mode. I opted for the Performance mode, and even without the Series X's additional power, the game looked phenomenal on my 4K TV. From detailed dirt textures to sunlight refracting off of car windows to smashed cactus debris flying past your wheels, you feel like you're putting the pedal to the metal. The Forza Horizon series may have begun as a spin-off of Forza Motorsport, but the open-world racing game is now one of Microsoft's top franchises.

Given that Playground Games had access to Xbox One X development kits quite early on, Forza Horizon 4 runs at a steady 60fps on the upgraded machine – a series first for consoles. While it's sure to knock down the resolution from pristine 4K down to 1080p, but it's still better to have the novelty of choice nevertheless. Forza Horizon 4 on PC is expanded upon further from its predecessors, giving a bevy of options along with detailed performance benchmarking tools that can make tinkering a joy.

Almost two years after the release of the first game, Playground returned with a sequel to its fan-beloved IP. Interestingly enough, Forza Horizon 2 stands to this day as the only cross-gen release in the release. Of course, the added strain of porting the game over to a last-gen machine means that sacrifices need to be made. Sumo Digital did a smart job at nailing the basics right, with the Xbox 360 version of Forza Horizon 2 running extremely well with a solid 30 fps cap. While the game did utilize the original Forza Horizon's engine written for the Xbox 360, it still looks and feels similar to its bigger brother on the Xbox One.

All in all, Forza Horizon 5 is another graphical masterclass from Playground Games. On Xbox Series X you have a choice between 30fps and 60fps that could actually be quite tricky to make, given how good the game feels to play even at the lower resolution. Then you have Xbox One X, which is very competitive against the new top tier console, even if you miss the 1080p60 option from Horizon 4, and the lowly Xbox One still delivers a decent, albeit clearly compromised experience. And if you do have an SSD handy, then the older generation does benefit some from the faster storage.

In the right hands, this console can absolutely live up to Microsoft's original pitch. Over the past decade, Forza Horizon hasn't just grown to be the premier open world arcade racer series, it's become one of the landmark technical showcases for what the Xbox series of consoles can do. Forza Horizon 5 is the first new game in the series to release for Xbox Series machines, but, as the racing heads to an open world rendition of Mexico, Playground Games has also had to design this game with Xbox One and PC in mind. By May 2020, as the Xbox Series X was nearing release, Microsoft announced they were seeking further requests from players of what games to expand their backward compatibility library with. The company stated, "Resurrecting titles from history often presents a complex mix of technical and licensing challenges, but the team is committed to doing everything we can to continue to preserve our collective gaming legacy." I have a disc copy of the original Forza Horizon game for the Xbox 360.

In the past, I was able to download the game on my Xbox One but am unable to now install it on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles. Is there a way for me to download the game as it is one of my favorite backwards compatible games. The game came on time, very happy with the condition of game and like the 'open world' feel of the gameplay. This game is a spinoff format from the forza series, it is the same style as the project Gotham racing games where you drive around a map and have to race various events. Not a bad game but disappointed the steering is inconsistent you can just spin off know matter how careful you are with the throttle and even with traction turned on which spoils the game.

Another thing I was disappointed with was the sound of the engine noises you just can't here them in most cars when in cockpit view. Very surprising because the sound in Forza 4 is Fantastic.. I.e. everyyhing fixed the amount of laps etc but that's just the same as with all the Forza games can't pick any track the amount of laps so on, funny nearly every other racing game lets you. When time of day, weather and seasons change, everyone playing the game experiences it at the same time.

The unique first Forza Horizon only released on the XBOX360, I hope they make a remastered version on PC and last gen consoles, may favorite still Forza Horizon 3. As well as the traditional street and event races that fans of the franchise have come to expect, Forza Horizon 5 will feature an entirely new multiplayer-focused component - Event Lab. Serving as an arcade-y, user-created companion piece, Event Lab is a tweak-able toolset that allows players to create their own unique multiplayer races. From hitting bowling pins to racing through piñatas, Event Lab promises to offer a highly tweak-able user-created multiplayer experience. Brown describes Event Lab as "the Forza Horizon 5 feature I'm most excited about." All the cars and various playing characters can be extensively customised so you can look exactly the way you want to and drive your dream car too.

Play to race against the competition, or just free roam and see what's out there to be found – all the events pop up to explorers, they just do so in a more random and surprisingly naturalistic manner. Similar multiplayer content from previous games will be included, allowing players to partake in a variety of street races. More modes will be included, including the ability for players to create their own races and game modes. Compatible Xbox 360 and Xbox games are listed for purchase on the Xbox game store.
